Tegra 4 specification first exposure: A15 architecture, still 4+1 core

The NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor has just emerged on tablets and smartphones, and VR-Zone received some specifications on the next-generation Tegra 4 today.

The Tegra 4 development codenamed Wayne (Batman Wayne) is scheduled on the official road map in 2012, but in fact it will not be launched until 2013, and most models will have to wait until one and a half years later.

According to the latest information, Tegra 4 will have four different models, but only three of them will be based on the latest ARM Cortex-A15 processor architecture, while the other one will continue to use Tegra 3's A9 architecture, and the core configuration is still "4- PLUS-1" means four main cores and one auxiliary core.

The first flagship model in the first quarter of 2013 was clocked at 1.8GHz, targeting high-end, 10-inch tablet devices, and it will be upgraded to 2.0GHz by the third quarter.

Also in the third quarter of next year, two mainstream models will be available. One is the A15 architecture, which is clocked at 1.2-1.8GHz and still faces 10-inch tablets. However, market positioning will become more mainstream and even bring cheap products. The second is A9 architecture, clocked at 1.2-2.0GHz, targeting 7-inch tablets and smart phones, and specifically adding support for LTE100/HSPA42 networks.

This will be the first Tegra to support the LTE network, which can make up for the shortcomings of Tegra 3's inability to support LTE and lead to a large number of 4G handsets switching to Qualcomm.
