Researchers around the world are studying how to detect Alzheimer's disease as early as possible. After all, early detection allows people to find the right treatment to slow down the disease, and there is plenty of time for them to arrange legal and economic matters. Some have decided to focus on blood and cerebrospinal fluid testing, while others are developing gadgets that can detect early signs. However, a group of researchers from the University of Bari in Italy believe that how to detect Alzheimer's disease as early as possible depends on artificial intelligence. They developed an algorithm that can detect microstructural changes in the brain caused by disease 10 years before the onset of symptoms.
They conducted 67 MRI scans of their artificial intelligence, 38 of whom were Alzheimer's and 29 were from a healthy control group. The researchers divided the scan results into small areas and asked their artificial intelligence to analyze the connections between the various neurons. At the end of the training, they tested the algorithm by allowing 148 subjects to have a brain scan. Among the total number of people, 48 people with this disease were scanned, and 48 people with mild cognitive impairment were scanned, and those with mild cognitive impairment eventually developed into Alzheimer's disease.
The probability of artificial intelligence in diagnosing Alzheimer's disease is 86%. More importantly, its chances of detecting mild cognitive impairment can reach 84%, making it an effective tool for early diagnosis. Unfortunately, the study data was limited to scans from the Alzheimer Neuroimaging Database at the University of Southern California Los Angeles. However, as more samples are studied and further developed, artificial intelligence may become more accurate until its results are reliable enough to become a non-invasive early detection system.
