Analog Devices, Inc., the world's leading provider of high-performance signal processing solutions, recently introduced an audio-centric new product in its SigmaDSP processor family that delivers far more signal processing power than previous SigmaDSP devices. Improvements in hardware and software have enabled the ADAU1452 SigmaDSP processor to perform audio processing algorithms up to three times faster than its predecessors, providing designers with more flexibility to improve the audio performance of their products.
The new processor has an independent hardware architecture that is optimized to efficiently process audio signal streams created with ADI's award-winning, easy-to-use SigmaStudio graphical programming tool. The ADAU1452 is the first product in the SigmaDSP family of audio processors that supports both time domain and frequency domain processing. This product extends the range of applications for signal processing technology and can be used to solve system design problems.
The ADAU1452 is suitable for a wide range of applications in a variety of applications, such as automotive infotainment (amplifiers and host controllers), consumer audio (SOUNDBAR speakers, subwoofers and powered speakers), professional audio (amplifiers, mixers and sound units) .
The ADAU1452 features a 1.2-volt, 32-bit DSP core that operates at up to 294.912 MHz and can execute up to 6144 instructions per sample (approximately equivalent to 1.2 GMAC/s or 295 MIPS) with a standard sample rate of 48 kHz. The optimized kernel architecture allows more than 3,000 biquad filters to be executed in a single program. The expanded data memory can accommodate FIR filters up to 24,000 taps. The ADAU1452 SigmaDSP clock generator, onboard asynchronous sample rate converter, and flexible hardware audio routing matrix greatly simplify the design of complex multirate audio systems, while clock hardware and integer phase-locked loop (PLL) can simultaneously generate up to 15 Audio sampling rate.
The ADAU1452 can be connected to a wide range of data converters, digital audio devices, amplifiers and control circuits thanks to its configurable 48-channel, 32-bit serial port, stereo S/PDIF interface and multi-purpose input/output pins. Up to 4 MEMS microphones can also be connected directly using the PDM interface and integrated decimation filter.
Independent Slave Devices and Master The I2C/SPI control port allows the ADAU1452 to be programmed and configured through an external master and allows it to act as a master and configure external slaves directly. With this feature, plus self-booting, you can design a compact, stand-alone system that works without external input.
