Way of working

The DVD or set-top box power supply is a flyback converter designed with the TNY280PN (U1). In this design, the 10 μF C4 capacitor selects U1's enhanced current limit and allows the power supply to output 28 W peak power during startup or load transients (DVD open).

• Low no-load power consumption: no-load power consumption <50 mW at 265 VAC input
• Low standby power consumption: standby power consumption <90 mW at 5 V, 5 mA load
• High efficiency: >74% efficiency at 90 VAC input
• Even if the output is safely connected, there is still an EMI margin of >10 dBμV relative to the conducted EMI limit of EN55022B
• Simple output overvoltage latching shutdown circuit protects the load in the event of a fault
• Extended on-time provides 28 ms hold time
