Taiwan's LED packaging factory Hongqi announced today that it has reached a patent settlement agreement with the US company CREE, and both parties have revoked all patent litigation. It is reported that the agreement includes the cancellation of all patent litigations of both parties, and Hongqi pays royalties to obtain non-exclusive licenses. The royalties include one-time fees and annual rights; the content of the settlement agreement is confidential.
Prior to this, Cree issued a statement on September 16, 2014, filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Hongqi and Jintai Electronics in the Western District Court of Wisconsin, USA, accusing Hongqi of infringing on its six white LED packaging patents.
Hong Qi also twice filed a patent infringement against Cree in December 2014 and January 2016. A spokesman for Hong Qi once said that after the lawsuit, Hong Qi had actively negotiated with Cree but failed to reach an agreement.
