With the development of the automotive industry, more and more advanced lighting technologies are getting more applications in automobiles. Among them, LED lighting has the advantages that halogen lamps and xenon lamps can't match, such as long life, fast response time, energy saving and environmental protection, etc., which accelerates the pace of adoption in automobile lighting.

ON Semiconductor offers a broad lineup for automotive headlamp lighting applications, from general lamp driver solutions to stepper drives, LED drivers and xenon lamp drivers, with a focus on automotive headlamps, dashboard backlighting, interior lighting, Automotive lighting applications such as door lighting and taillights offer a wide range of solutions, including standard and custom products, especially in the market for headlamp adjustment, xenon lamp drive ASICs for deflection and stepper drives that are the de facto standard.

Various types of product features and overall solutions

ON Semiconductor's linear regulators for low-circuit applications, such as 20mA LEDs, have a low total power consumption and can operate in a 85-degree environment with low system integration, such as the CSI or NUD series of the NSI45 series. Meet such requirements;

For the switching regulator, it is characterized by high LED power, can reach 700mA or so, is the total power consumption of medium and high, can work in the environment of up to 125 degrees, its system integration is also relatively low, can be used The NCV3056/66 series achieves control of it;

For the lighting management integrated chip, its power is also relatively large, the ambient temperature can reach 125 degrees, is a complete independent subsystem, so the integration will be higher, NCV78663 and NCV7680 are used for this application.

Headlight driver and position adjuster

First, the front LED lighting. LED front lighting generally requires support from a single LED to multiple LED strings, voltages up to 60V, requires PWM dimming, requires an energy efficient integrated driver, requires low EMC radiation from the LED string, and requires diagnostic and synchronous interfaces. ON Semiconductor's AMIS-30623 single-chip microstepping motor driver is suitable for horizontal adjustment and deflection control of headlamps. It integrates a controller and LIN interface, and uses a LIN host to implement a dedicated mechatronic solution for remote connectivity. The device receives position adjustment commands via the bus and then drives the motor coils to the desired position, using current, speed, acceleration, and deceleration configuration parameters. The AMIS-30623 also detects motor stall conditions.

In addition, two devices can also be used for the above applications, NCV70521 and NCV70522 are single-chip micro-stepping motor drivers with current conversion meter and SPI interface. The NCV70522 also includes an embedded 5 V regulator and watchdog reset function. The device acts as a peripheral driver that accepts the “next microstep” command from the microcontroller and synchronizes the motor coil current to the desired speed. The integrated SPI bus allows parameter setting and diagnostic feedback.

Second, advanced LED headlamp power ballasts. ON Semiconductor's NCV78663 single-chip, smart headlamp LED driver enables single-chip control of high beam and fog lamps. The NCV78663 integrates digital dimming, SPI programmable settings and built-in diagnostics to provide an integrated, energy-efficient integrated headlamp control solution.

Third, the LED combination taillight controller. The NCV7680 can be used as a stand-alone device or as an additional support circuit for complex systems. When combined with the boost controller, additional LEDs can be connected as a single LED string. Typical applications include combined taillights, daytime running lights (DRL), fog lights, central high-position brake lights (CHMSL) arrays, turn indicators and other external modulation applications, liquid crystal display (LCD) backlights, and more.

Fourth, the car lighting constant current stabilizer. Semiconductor's double-ended linear constant current regulator (CCR) is a simple, economical and powerful device that provides an effective solution for current regulation in cost-sensitive LED applications. The device enables high-side or low-side current stabilizers without the need for external components. These devices regulate output current over a wide range of input voltages and have a negative temperature coefficient to prevent thermal runaway of the LEDs under extreme voltage and operating temperature conditions. These devices include the NSI45xxx, NSI50xxx, NSIC20xx, and NSI45xxxJ series.

Summary: LED lighting can be used in all parts of the car, from headlights to fog lights, instrument backlights to mirror lighting, taillights, interior lighting, etc. Anson provides a range of standard lighting analog products such as NCV3065 and discrete devices such as The NSI45 series, as well as a range of products acquired by AMIS, such as ASSP, provide professional automotive-grade lighting solutions for different lighting subsystems.

Another important trend in automotive headlamps is the adaptive headlamp system that provides beam deflection to optimize cornering illumination and adaptive headlamps to adjust the beam in real time to the actual environment. Stepper motors provide control for AFS and ADB. Provides robust, AEC-certified, production-approval-compliant products for automotive applications, including active safety and autonomous driving, automotive electrification, connectivity, LED lighting and fuel economy, and reduced emissions.
