Opt-Technical Solutions for Camera and Lens Resolution Matching

With the development of the machine vision industry, in order to better meet the needs of the majority of customers matching the right lens, OPT Automation Technology Co., Ltd. to brief you on how to match the industrial camera with the appropriate lens, and the camera and lens resolution Matching technical solutions.

In general, when the camera and the lens are selected, in terms of resolution matching, in order to facilitate the memory of the matching relationship between the lens and the camera, people often use the resolution of the corresponding camera to name the lens. This naming method is not scientific at all. At the same time, it brings a lot of misunderstandings to people who have new exposure to the visual system. It often uses a megapixel resolution camera to correspond to a megapixel lens and a two million pixel resolution camera to 200 million. A megapixel lens, while a 5 megapixel camera corresponds to a 5 million pixel lens. Actually, the lens and camera do not correspond to the camera's own pixel resolution (number of pixels), but their respective limit spatial resolution (ie, the spatial cutoff frequency corresponding to the transfer function MTF).

According to the currently disclosed performance index, the limit spatial resolution of a megapixel lens corresponds to 90 line pairs/mm, and the limit spatial resolution of a two-megapixel camera corresponds to 110 line pairs/mm, a lens of 5 million pixels. The corresponding limit space resolution is 160 line pairs/mm. According to the matching principle of the camera lens, the limit resolution of the lens must be greater than or equal to the camera's limit resolution, then the limit resolution of a megapixel camera must be less than 90 line pairs/mm, two million pixel lenses and five hundred The megapixel camera is equipped with the same principle.

So how do you know the camera's ultimate spatial resolution? The camera's ultimate spatial resolution is not determined by the camera's own resolution, but by the individual pixel size of the camera's chip. The specific formula is as follows:

1/(single pixel size *2), unit: pair/mm

For example, our commonly used AVT GUPPY Pro series F125B camera, which is 1.3 million, 1/3 inch CCD, a single pixel size of 3.75um * 3.75um. The camera's limit spatial resolution is:

1mm/(3.75um*2)=133.33 Pair/mm

From the perspective of the camera's extreme spatial resolution greater than the camera's limit of spatial resolution, it is appropriate to select a five-megapixel lens.
