OSRAM Optoelectronics Introduces Ultra-Small Oslon LEDs

Osram Opto Semiconductors has introduced a new LED in a compact 3 x 3 mm package. According to the company, the new package achieves high efficacy even at high currents, simplifying thermal management and reliability with a beam angle of 80 °C.
Oslon LEDs are designed for lighting applications such as spotlights, desk lights and ceiling floodlights.
Oslon says the Oslon LED has a low thermal resistance of 7 K/W, which simplifies thermal management. Although the product is small in size, it gives designers the design flexibility to create extremely complex lighting solutions. For LEDs with extremely high luminous flux, several LEDs can be designed in series.
In addition to ultra-white LEDs (color temperature 5700 K ~ 6500K), natural white LEDs and warm white LEDs will be available this summer, with color temperatures ranging from 2700 K to 4500 K.
Since the maximum luminous flux of the ultra-white Oslon LED may be 130 lm, the average luminous flux of the ultra-white Oslon LED (5700K to 6500 K) can reach 110 lm when the operating current is 350 mA.
When the operating current is 350mA and the color temperature is 3000K, the average luminous efficacy of the warm white Oslon LED can reach 75lm/W and the luminous flux is 85lm. When the operating current is 700mA, the luminous flux of the warm white Oslon LED can reach 155lm, which is impressive.
The package size of other Oslon LED products is not much larger than the chip package size (the chip package size is generally 1 x 1 mm). Philips Lumileds introduced the Luxeon Rebel line of products in March 2007 with a package size of 4.5 x 3 mm. In August 2008, Cree introduced the XP package with a package size of only 3.45 x 3.45 x 2 (height) mm. (China Semiconductor Lighting Network)
