Zimbabwe will introduce a policy prohibiting incandescent lamps to promote energy-saving lamps

The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority said that it is lobbying the Ministry of Energy and Power Development and hopes to introduce a policy prohibiting the use of incandescent lamps to promote the use of energy-efficient lamps that use electricity more efficiently. The power supply bureau said that this is part of the measures to ease the power shortage crisis currently facing Tianjin and it will soon invest funds to promote energy-saving lamps. According to estimates of the Bureau, investing US$7 million to promote the use of energy-saving lamps can save 150,000 kilowatts of electricity, equivalent to about 500,000 U.S. million kilowatts, while the actual investment in power plants costs about 30 million U.S. million kilowatts. The Bureau also stated that it is necessary to strengthen regional cooperation on this issue. At present, SADC countries have reached a consensus that all countries in the region will soon issue relevant policies.
