I am very happy to return to Harbin Institute of Technology. I would like to share with you the direction of Microsoft Research in artificial intelligence and the direction in which everyone can prepare for the future.
Artificial intelligence is not something that happened in the past two or three years. In fact, in 1960 there was a lot of artificial intelligence development. First of all, I want to use a short timeline to see everyone's development in recent years.
In 2010, Microsoft XBox launched Kinect. At that time, everyone thought that the computer was really amazing. They could see the movements of people and integrate the movements into the game. This is the first time that industrial products can track each person's joints and movements in real time. It is a big breakthrough, just as the machine has eyes and can see how people do their actions.
In 2011, IBM Watson defeated Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter when he made a guessing game in the US Jeoparody! In 2012, Rick Rashid, founder of Microsoft Research Institute, demonstrated real-time speech translation technology at the "21st Century Computing" conference held in Tianjin, which caused great shock.
In 2014, Microsoft applied this real-time voice translation technology to Skype Translator. Whether it's iOS, Android or Window, you can download and install Skype and use Skype Translator real-time voice translation technology.
No need to talk about it in 2016, AlphaGo defeated Li Shishi in the Go game. AlphaGo will fight another game in May this year. Artificial intelligence began in around 1960, so why has the torrent of artificial intelligence begun to erupt in the past few years? There are several main items:
First, there is a lot of data. Everyone now uses mobile phones to send text messages, chat with friends on WeChat, search for content, etc. All the data in it will be recorded, which makes us have a lot of data. When you have a lot of interactions with your classmates and friends, or even if you don't watch the chats between you and your friends, you can see your content on the Internet and Weibo. And this data allows the machine to see what people can say and what they will say when they are talking.
So, because of the big data relationship, today's machines can make things that are difficult. Because the machine knows what you have said before on what occasion.
