Way of working
The AC input is rectified and filtered and combined into a DC applied to one end of the primary winding of the transformer. A 450 V capacitor is added to the shunt balance resistor to achieve the required voltage rating. The resistors R1 to R4 provide an insurance function in the event of a sudden failure. The L1, C1 and transformer E-Shield windings allow the design to meet the EN55022 B conduction limit and have a good margin.
